I came across an article from The Guardian the other day highlighting one of the more mundane aspects of ruling Britain – moving into and out of 10 Downing Street.
When David Cameron moved out last year he used the services of budget company Simply Move. One of the removal men left a clipboard unguarded showing the order for 330 boxes, 30 rolls of tape and 3 rolls of bubble wrap.
To move in, in Cameron’s stead, Theresa May plumped for Movecorp. One of their employees revealed that their order had just been for 10 large boxes. There is probably some political or ideological significance in there somewhere but it I’m afraid it escapes me.
To be honest, I am surprised that any facts of the move were revealed at all. I agree with Stephen Morris, boss of Stephen Morris Shipping who said “documents like that should never be visible”. His firm moved the Blairs out in 2007 and the Browns out three years later.
Morris went on to make another telling point about the cost of such a move. “I don’t even see the point of quoting because the publicity is worth far more. In the case of the Blairs we were on Sky News for nearly 24 hours.”
I’m not expecting a call from No 10 anytime soon but if you are looking to move home in or from the Gloucester area then Express Removals can help. Contact us today on 01452 523676 to discuss your requirements or look around our website for more information.
